Week 9 - Project 1 - Door Applique Design with Engineering Features
DOOR APPLIQUE DESIGN WITH ENGINEERING FEATURES :
Aim :
To create engineering features to fit the component on the Class B surface from the given Class-A surface.
Explanation:
Heat Staking :
Heat staking also known as thermoplastic staking is the process of joining two dissimilar materials together. In heat staking, we use local heating and cooling to raise the temperature of plastic components and allow plastic reforming to be carried out. This reforming can be used in a wide variety of applications.
Two way and Four-way Locators :
A Two-way locating pin restricts motion along one axis, like a round pin in a slot. Likewise, a Four-way pin restricts four degrees of freedom along the Two-axis. A round locating pin located concentrically in a hole is a common application of a Four-way pin and helps to further secure the piece
Mating the parts we need to fix the position of the part with the respective mating part. In such cases, we need to follow the engineering Principles. In this project, we are going to follow the 3-2-1 Principle. Any parts that are fixed through welding or machining Process have to be fixed with 12 Deg of Freedom.

EXPLANATION :
- Creating the Door Applique. We have to create the closed surfaces.
- Do the Draft Analysis for Class A Surface by taking the proper Tooling Axis.
- B Surface is created by simply offsetting the A Surface of 2.5 mm.
- Create the C Surface by 3 Deg Draft Sweep from the Class A Surface.
- Then, Join the Class A, B & C Surfaces to form a Closed Surface.
- Again we have to do a Draft Analysis For the Solid Door Applique.
- We have to Create the Heat Stacks, Four Way Locator, and Two Way Locator on the B Surface.
- When we are creating the Locators it has to be created at the Extrem Ends of the parts. Because it easily can be located.
- Every Locators needs the Chamfer And Draft angle.
- Four-Way Locators usually have 50% of Thickness of Part, Draft Angle 0.5 Deg, Chamfer 3 x 45 Deg, and Fillets 0.5 at the Edges.
- Two Way Locators usually have 50% of Thickness of Part, Draft Angle 0.5 Deg, Chamfer 3 x 45 Deg, and Fillets 0.5 at the Edges.
- Heat Stakes Dai 5mm with 2mm Thickness With Draft Angle 0.5 Deg.
- Make Sure that the Locators are height than the Heat stakes.
- Four-Way Locators, Two Way Locators, and Heat stakes are fixed at the B Surface with a 60 mm gap.
- Heat Stakes clearance gap with the flange is around 0.5 mm.
- Locators clearance gap with the flange is around 0.1 mm.
