Week 9 - Parametric study on Gate valve.
Aim - To determine the flow characteristics of a fluid through a gate valve and quantify the parameters of flow. To understand the workflow to set a parameterised simulation in Fluent.
Solving and Modelling Approach - The .step file for valve is used for geometry. The volume region is extracted for simulation after supressing solids.
Pre-processing and solver setting - Mesh - tetrahedral mesh - Nodes - 28418; Elements- 124296
Mesh is used to closely capture the gate disk for the stagnation point. A turbulent simulation is done using the k-epsilon model. The boundary condition is a pressure inlet. A parameterised study to understand the flow on various valve opening is done. A report is generated to plot the mass flow rate. Contours of velocity and pressure drop is generated.
The mass flow with opening variation is plotted.
the flow coefficient is defined as the flow rate across the valve at unit pressure drop
Cv = `Q*root(2 )((SG)/(DeltaP)`in metric units. Q(m3/hr) and delta p in bar
