Week 9 - Challenge 2 - Switch Bezel Design
Respected Sir,
as per the given guidelines, the assignment is submitting with the report, please look into the below attached files. Also if any corrections please include in remarks.
SWITCH BEZEL REPORT BASED ON DRAFTING ANALYSIS
Initially tooling direction is the main focus to create main tooling axis for the given switch bezel class A surface. The flat surface tending towards Z-direction is multi extracted to make draft analysis. To create main tooling axis, first of all a dummy tooling axis should be generated. In this analysis, two dummy tooling axes were created, one in y-z plane and the other in z-x plane. In y-z plane sketch of class A surface, two inclined lines acting as drafts were selected to create dummy tooling axis. In z-x plane sketch, using project geometry command the solid surface boundary is selected, then a line drawn from the axis of the selected plane. So that the angle between the line drawn and another line from the surface boundary is made equal to 3 degrees. Thus, two dummy tooling axes were generated and by bisecting them, we get the main tooling axis.
Now, once main tooling axes generated, three walls nearer to the flat surface, other than fillets were extracted. Also the bezel rest surface is extracted. After extraction, all these components were untrimmed, extrapolated, trimmed and then made offset. The amount of offset between class A surface and class B surface is maintained about 2.5 mm. Once trimming the flat surfaces and bezel rest surface, focused on filleting walls. After filleting, a B-surface is generated which is exactly 2.5 mm offset to class A surface.
Now, next step is to focus on Class C surface. Class C surface is generated by selecting the boundary of bezel rest using multi extract command with tangent continuity, smooth curve command, trim command, boundary command and sweep commands. During sweeping, the main tooling axis is required to give the draft at an angle of 3 degrees by selecting the option ‘with draft analysis’. Once the class C surface is generated, the final trim of class A, class B, class C surface together is made. Now, click the part body by selecting the option ‘define in work object’. Now, go to ‘close surface’ option. We can find it by clicking, ‘start’, then ‘mechanical design’ and go to ‘part design’. Now once the close surface option is clicked then click on final trim, so that a closed surface is generated of required specifications. Thus, a final surface generated after trim is converted into closed surface in the part body.
Once tooling axis is generated, go to the material and click on customize view parameters. Then click on draft analysis tab. Once the tab is opened, the compass showing three orientations have a common red pointed mark. The compass can be brought or coincided to tooling axis by dragging the red pointed mark. Then click on the class A flat surface, immediately it changes to green coloured one. Now in draft analysis tab 2 degrees option is changed to 3 degrees. Using running point option, the draft at any point on the class A surface is analyzed.
