Week 9 - Challenge 1 - Base Bracket Design

Respected Sir,

Closed surface is generated for given class A model, as per your directions. Also report is made and attached with part files which were mentioned below. For more details please look into the below attachments.

BASE BRACKET REPORT BASED ON DRAFTING ANALYSIS

Class A surface is given. Using the class A surface, tooling axis is generated with help of intersection method. To do draft analysis, initially a flat surface consists a larger hole is selected to create a dummy tooling axis. There is also found another hole on the flat surface, we can also do draft analysis by creating a tooling axis on that flat face also. Flat surface with larger hole in Z-direction is selected first to create dummy tooling axis.

By using intersection command, the zx-plane and class A surface is selected. Now the sketch is generated, from which two draft lines were selected. This draft lines were extended by using line command. In line command point-to-point option is selected to extend the two draft lines. Once the draft lines were extended, with the help of line command and point generated on the dummy tooling axis, bisected the two draft lines and generated actual tooling axis. Now, this tooling axis which is generated will help us to create a class C surface using sweep command in future or further processing.

Once tooling axis is generated, go to the material and click on customize view parameters. Then click on draft analysis tab. Once the tab is opened, the compass showing three orientations have a common red pointed mark. The compass can be brought or coincided to tooling axis by dragging the red pointed mark. Then click on the class A flat surface, immediately it changes to green coloured one. Now in draft analysis tab 2 degrees option is changed to 3 degrees. Using running point option, the draft at any point on the class A surface is analyzed.

Now the problems found in the class A surface were given with different colours. Now, the selected surfaces, were extracted, untrimmed, extrapolated and then trimmed. All these selected surfaces once performing the mentioned operations, then made offset, to generate a B –Surface model.

Once B-Surface model is created, filleting is done and then the next step is to create a class C surface using tooling axis, class A surface boundary. To create class C surface, boundary command and sweep command with the option ‘with draft analysis’ is selected and given the draft angle of 3 degrees.

Thus, after generating all the three surfaces class A, class B and class C, final trim is made on the surface. Now, click the part body by selecting the option ‘define in work object’. Now, go to ‘close surface’ option. We can find it by clicking, ‘start’, then ‘mechanical design’ and go to ‘part design’. Now once the close surface option is clicked click on final trim, so that a closed surface is generated of required specifications.
