Week 9 - Challenge 1 - Base Bracket Design

BASE BRACKET DESIGN

AIM: To create a Base Bracket Plastic Component through a given class A surface and perform Draft Analysis.

OBJECTIVES

  • Creation of Tooling Axis.
  • Creation of Class B and Class C surface.
  • Creating a solid part out of surface modeling.
  • Draft Analysis of class A surface and final plastic component.
PURPOSE OF DRAFT ANALYSIS

  1. Draft analysis helps ensure that a plastic part can be easily removed from the mold.
  2. Draft analysis helps prevent friction between the part and the mold, which can reduce the life of the mold and part.
  3. Draft analysis helps prevent a rough surface finish on the part.
  4. Draft analysis helps prevent week structure in the part.
  5. Draft analysis helps determine whether the draft angle is positive or negative.
  6. Draft analysis helps specify surfaces, pull direction, and the draft angle required during prototyping.
MOST PLASTIC COMPONENTS REQUIRE A MINIMUM DRAFT ANGLE OF ARROUND 0.5° - 1°, BUT 3° IS WIDELY ACCEPTED FOR COST SAVING PURPOSE.

CAD Software Used: CATIA V5

Introduction: In this project we are designing a base bracket using given class A surface. The approach includes creation of class B surface keeping 2.5mm thickness for the complete component. The design also included Class C creation from the given parent surface.

CONSTRAINTS:

  • NO CHANGES IN CLASS A SURFACE ARE ALLOWED.
  • ALL DESIGN RULES ARE STRICTLY FOLLOWED.
  • ALL SURFACES SHOULD BE CLOSED BEFORE CONVERTING TO SOLID.
  • ALL FACES SHOULD MEET THE ALLOWED DRAFT REQUIREMENTS.
ALL THE SCREENSHOTS ARE PROVIDED IN THE ZIP FILE.
