Week 9 - Challenge 1 - Base Bracket Design

Below are the steps for creating the Base Bracket Plastic component in "CATIA Surfacing" through the given Class-A surface :

  1. Check the draft analysis of the given Class-A surface.
    • First check for the draft angles of various surfaces of the given Class-A surface.
  2. Create a Geometrical set for the Tooling axis and name it as "Tooing Axis":
    • Create a plane in YZ Plane at the point created at the origin of the circle on the slope surface.
    • Now create an intersect of the existing class A surface on the new plane created and extract it.
    • Now choose two lines that are intersecting to the imaginary axis line.
    • Extent the lengths of the lines and use Line command to create a bisecting line for the two existing lines extracted from the Class-A surface.
    • Now increase the thickness of the lines and change the geometry from continous line to Axis line.
    • Now Publish the Axis line and Class-A surface and minimize the tree under Tooling axis.
  3. Create a Geometrical set for creating the "Class-B surface": Now Class B surface is futher catogorized into 4 more part which are as follows:
    1. Create a Geometrical set named RIB-1:
      1. Now click on the Extract command and extract the rib surfaces.
      2. Now hide the Class-A surface and untrim the extracted surfaces.
      3. Now extrapolate the untrimmed surfaces at a distancec greater than the Class-A surface under Point continuity in Propogation and Continuity as Curvature.
      4. Now the Hide the all the other components except for the extrapolated components.
      5. Now Trim the components till the desired shape is obtained.
      6. Now use offset command to offset the shape to 2.5mm in order to obtain the desired Class-B surface.
      7. Now give the final offset component the name RIB-1.
    2. Create a Geometrical set named RIB-2:
      1. Now repeat the steps same as for RIB-1 on the other side of the RIB as well.
    3. Create a Geometrical set named SURFACE:
      1. Now extract the flat surfaces and repeat the same in Point a from (iii) to (vii).
    4. Create a Geometrical set named TRIMS:
      1. Now trim all the components RIB-1, RIB-2 & Surface to get the desired Class-B surface.
    5. Now publish the final Class-B surface.
  4. Now create a Geometrical set for creating the "Class-C surface":
    1. Now extract the outer boundary line of the Class-A surface.
    2. Now extract the two inner circles of the Class-A surface.
    3. Now use sweep command and choose Line in Profile type from the options.
    4. Now from the drop-down menu choose "with Draft direction" option.
    5. Choose extracted curves one by one as the Guide curve and Tooling axis as the Direction.
    6. After sweeping all the curves join all the Class-A and sweeped surfaces to form a single bbody.
    7. Rename the final output as Class-C surface.
    8. Now publish the final Class-C surface.
  5. Now create a Geometrical set for creating the "Final": Now Trim the final Class-B surfce with the Class-C surface to obtain the desired Final component.
  6. Now publish the Final Body.
  7. Now perform the Draft analysis on the final component.
  8. Now change the workbench to Part design and now select Close surface command on the final component obtained.
