Week 9 - Challenge 1 - Base Bracket Design

Class A

Class A surface is the term mainly used in automotive design industry. It describes the final production surface data for the aesthetic parts of the car.

Class B

Class B surface is the secondary surfaces which is not visible normally. These must be smooth and "error-free" as well, but are not held to the standards that class A surfaces are.

Class C

Class C surfaces are the backside surfaces that can have tool marks, flash and other imperfections without hurting appearance, function, etc..

PROCEDURE

1.Import the CLASS A surface

2.For finding the tooling axis, make a sketch line using the intersction

3.Draw a line by using point to point and the bisecting line is the tooling axis for the model

.

but we can create a dummy tooling axis by using the normal line of the hole

4.Creation of B surface

a.It is created by extracting the each surface of CLASSS A & untriming them.

b.Extrapolate the surface the and trim the extracting surface

c.Offset the trim surface into 2.5mm(thickness of the material).

d.Trim the each surafce with other to form a surafce

e.Fillet the surafce(fillet value of CLASS A + thickness)

i.Rib-1

ii.Rib-2

iii.Base Center

iv.Base

5.Creation of CLASS C surface

i.First the boundary of the class A surface is extracted using Multiple extract feature.

ii.After this sweep option is used to create the sweep along the tooling axis direction.

iii.Class B surface and the class C surface are then joined together by trim operaton and hole are joined by joining.

6.The model is converted into solid by closed surafce

DRAFT ANALYSIS

After draft analysis is done we can observe that the green colour shows that the drafted walls of the base bracket aew\re above 2 degree which is a permissible cirteria to manufacture in injection moulding.
