Challenge

Week 9 - Challenge 1 - Base Bracket Design

AIM:

To create the base bracket plastic component through the given Class A surface by creating a tooling axis meeting the requirements of the draft angle and to perform the Draft analysis on the solid model at the end.

GIVEN CLASS A SURFACE

TOOLING AXIS :

Tooling axis or the molding axis is the direction in which the mold or the core and the cavity opens and closes, creating the tooling axis is necessary because it is used to check the draft analysis and the tooling axis is created by the bisecting method

BISECTING METHOD:

To create the tooling axis first we need to make sure that the component is clearing the tooling axis in the given specific direction.

the first step is to check the component from which side the tooling axis covers all the axis, for the given CLASS A SURFACE the suitable axis is Z Axis because there are two holes given in the model if we choose the x-axis and the y-axis we can't able to produce the component so we are going with the z-axis for the tooling direction

After selecting the direction, an axis of dummy tooling is created in the direction for the reference by bisecting the line

The bisecting line created by using the Class A surface by using the yz-plane intersection is created and from that the tooling axis is created.

In the below images how we had created the tooling axis using the bisecting line is shown.

created the intersect by using the yz plane and then a point has been created from the center of the hole

and then a dummy tooling axis is created his is shown in the voilet colour in the above image

and then by using the bisecting line the main tooling axis is created the main tooling axis is shown in the sky blue colour in the above picture.

CONCLUSION:

The design of the plastic component -Base Bracket from a Class A is completed using the concepts of the draft handle and the draft analysis Tooling axis and Class B &Class C surface and converting them in to the closed surface to a solid part.
