Week 9 - Challenge 1 - Base Bracket Design

Aim: - To Design a Base Bracket and Do Draft anaylisis from the Given Class A Surface

Theory: -

What is a Class A Surface ?

Class-A (or 'Strak') is a term used in specifically in automotive design. It describes the final production surface data for the aesthetic parts of the car or any Automotive Component.

What is a Draft ?

Draft is a taper applied to the faces of the part that prevent them from being parallel to the motion of the mold opening. This keeps the part from being damaged due to the scraping as the part is ejected out of the mold. Here are five ways that draft can improve part moldability.

Proceture

Step 1 : - Import the Class A in Catia

Step 2 : - Create a tempory a tooling axis with the center hole

Step 3 : - Intersect the Class A by creating a plane parralell to it. Then draw tow lines on side and then bisect the line this will create your tooling axis. the image is below.

Step 4: - Now do the Draft anaylisis using the Draft anaylisis option. But Before that Change the View mode to Material

The Green Colour Shows that the Draft is good and part is manufacturable. The Good Draft angle should be 3 or more than 3 deg.

Step 5: - Creation of Class B Surface.

Step5.1 Extract the surface then make the surface intersect each other by extrapolating them and then intersect it

Step 5.2 Offset them to 2.5 mm

Step 5.3 Do the Same with Rest of them

Step 5.4 Apply fillet to it the end result would look like this

Step 6 C Surface Creation

Create a boundary around the class a Surface and the holes Them using sweep comaand expand them.

The Trim the Class B with it

the Reult would be like this

Step 7": Come into Part Desgin and using Close Surface Creat a Plastic Part

Step 8 Do Draft anaylisis on Final Product

Conclusion.

The Draft anaylis is over and the part is manufacturable .
