Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 2

Attachment feature- Screw Boss and Dog House

Draft Analysis: Draft Analysis is done to check whether the part created can be removed easily from the cavity easily. It is done by giving different color zones which shows any deviation from the specified draft angle and direction.

Tooling axis: It is created to specify the direction through which core has to pass into the cavity region. It plays a vital role in determining the direction of core as it should not affect the final product after cooling when it is removed. It should be in such a way to prevent side cores so that the cost will reduce.

Steps for specifying tooling axis:

  • Use Join command and confirm that surfaces are joined together properly with no gaps.
  • Analyse the surface model and decide the best tooling direction.
  • Extract the base surface using Multi Body extract.
  • Create a point at the center, and create axis system at that point.
  • Axis line is taken as Tooling Axis as in A-surface side walls are 90deg with the base and there is no draft angle is given.
  • As we are not able to alter the A-surface we have taken as it is.

But in actual scenario, it should be sent to A-surface team to ask them to give draft angle that suits for moudling during core removal. Then we have to decide based on the draft angle provided

Side Core axis: It is created to specify the direction for the tool to move through the aplique from the side as in one pass cavity cant be done.

Steps:

  • Point created at the center of the body while creating tooling axis is taken as reference.
  • Line is drawn passing through the above point in z-direction.
  • This line is considered as Side Core Axis.
