Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 1

AIM:

To create the rib for the Centre console coin holder considering the design rules mentioned in the video.

Ribs:

  • It is used to increase the strength of the molded part.
  • It is mean to provide the economical stiffness and strength in molded parts without increasing overall wall thickness.
  • And also providing alignment in mating parts.
  • It will be act as a guide for mechanism.
  • If the thickness of the rib gets high, then the sink mark and in turn cosmetic problems on the opposite side of the wall.
  • And it will locate the components of an assembly.

PROCEDURE:

  • Initially the base surface will be extracted.
  • On that extracted surface, the line is drawn, then that line will be extruded.

  • On that extruded surface, the thickness will be given using thickness option upto 1mm.
  • Then for that rib the draft angle must be minimum of 0.5 degree per side.
  • In that rib the bottom will ticker and top it will be thinner.
  • After that the thickness of the rib wil be reduced upto 0.75mm.
  • Then the draft must be provided in all the 4 phases.
  • It will allows the rib to release from the mould.
  • The fillet has to be provided at the base of the rib.
  • It can give upto 0.25 mm, sometimes the fillet radius can give upto 0.5mm if the thickness of the rib is high.
  • And then by taking the intersection definition of the whole part and creating the tritangential circle inbetween the rib and the base surface.
  • The rib root thickness should not crocc the 30% factor.

  • Then the sketch of the First rib will be offseted upto 5mm.
  • That offsetted line will be extruded, pretty much the same operation that was done on first rib.
  • Then the body will be provided to extruded surface.

RESULT:

The rib for the Centre console coin holder considering the design rules mentioned in the video.
