Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 1
In this challange we create the rib for the Centre console coin holder considering the design rules.
Ribs provides a means to economical stiffness and strength in molded parts without increasing overall wall thickness. they also facililate:-
- Locating and arresting component of an assembly.
- Providing alignment in mating parts.
- Acting as stops or guides for mechanisums.
Proper ribs design involves five main issues:-
- Thickness
- Height
- Location
- Quantity
- Manufacturability
Fristly we extract the back surface of the component then create a point on the surface. here we using the axis system for positioning sketch, with the help of sketch create a line which is called Tooling Axis.
Apply Extrude feature on the line upto 5 times of thickness. then applied thickness 0.5*t. thick ribs often cause sink mark and in turms cocmetic problems on the opposite surface of the wall to which they are attached.
After creating a rib applied draft angle which is not more then 3 degree. but we consider 0.5 degree. and also applied edge fillete value 0.125*t.
whatever features we have applied till now check with the help of tritangent circle which is also play a important role.
In the end again do same things apply same feature for second rib with distance 2*t, but between two ribs gap should be less then ratio of depth of rib to two times thickness is 3.
