Week 8 Worm Gear Challenge
OBJECTIVES
In this challenge, we have to perform a transient structural analysis on a worm gear assembly. For the academic version, we need to cut the gear by half so as to bring the model within limits. For the challenge, we have to rotate the worm so as to get to almost end of the half cut and get results for Equivalent stress, Equivalent elastic strain and the total deformation in the model. we can use a finer mesh while performing the challenge and submit a well formatted report with appropriate images.
PROCEDURE
- First, we have to input the engineering materials with required properties or else by creating with required properties.

- Then we have to import our model into ansys, import the model and open it in space claim and cut the model into half so that the academic version support.

- Then assign required connections in this assignment we will use frictionless contact between the components and give revolute joint for Gear and worm gear.

- Next step is to mesh the model

- Analysis setting then assign revolute joint load.

- Next setp is to define joint load :-

- Then give the required solution parameters then solve.
Total Deformation :-

Equivalent stress :-

Equivalent elastic strain :-

Conclusions:
Thus the worm gear assembly is simulated with transient structural analysis and the following results are obtained.
Max. Total deformation = 15.317 mm
Max. Equivalent Stress= 1306.3 Mpa
Max .Equivalent Strain = 6.92e-3 mm/m
