Week 8- Moving zones approach in Fluent

Week 8- Moving zones approach in Fluent

1)What are the approaches by which you would model moving zones?

  • To model moving zones, two approaches are used,
  1. Moving Reference Frame method,
  2. Moving Mesh Approach.

2)Which approach would you use to model unsteady phenomena?

  • We would use the moving mesh method to model unsteady phenomena.

3)Simulate rotary motion for the geometry given

  • Plot the velocity profile of the fluid motion

Import the mesh file provided,

Setup up the simulation, using the following boundary conditions and cell zone conditions.

  • General Settings

  • Model Settings:

  • Cell Zone Conditions Settings (set airfoil rotational velocity=250m/s)

Boundary Conditions:

  • We have to edit the airfoil conditions in the boundary setup as shown below,

Solution Methods:

  • Setup up solution method as coupled and use the second-order upwind method as shown below,

In Solution Monitors increase the residuals for the simulation to converge at a required value, here we are using 1e-4 as shown below,

  • After this step, we can use hybrid initialization and run the calculation.
