Week - 8 - Morphing

Aim:

To Perform Morphing on 2 models.

Objective:

1) Practice all the Morphing techniques that were shown in the video for Model-1.

2) Perform morphing for the Model-2 and Increase the Height of the Dog houses and Ribs.

3) Write a report on Morphing of both models and Discuss applications of morphing in various industries.

Procedure:

  • Importing our modal one into Ansa work bench.

  • Following modal checking the geometry and clearing the errors.

  • Applying Topology and assigning the perimeter and macros.

  • Now using the Morphing command activate morphing. We can see the green sign shows morphing is activated.

  • Now selecting the part which we want to morph.

  • Using New Option selecting Ortho and marking the object.

  • Now as the element is selected for morph box green box will appear.

  • Now using Move command we can give the directions X-axis , Y-axis , Z-axis which way we want to morph it will extrude.

  • After morphing in specific direction the morphine is done hit the middle click and reconstruct.
  • The model would look like this:

Modal 2:

  • Importing the modal two into Ansa Workbench and checking for geometry.

  • After clearing the geometry.

  • Now we can apply perimeter and macro if it’s necessary for the modal or else we can directly go for morphing.
  • Activating the morphing on the modal.

  • Now selecting the New option and selecting the Ortho command.

  • Now Select the element which we have to morph.
  • Deselecting the parts by right clicking.

  • After choosing green box will appear which is a morph box which will morph only that part.

  • Now we can use Move option to moving the object to various direction.

  • As shown in the image I have move lots of element of the modal using Move command.
  • Similarly we can do it for rest of the modal.

Application of Morphing:

Morphing

ANSA encompasses a full – fledged Morphing menu which is completely integrated with ANSA’s interface and doesn’t require any additional module installations or licenses. The functions of the Morphing menu can be used to efficiently re-shape both FE and/or Geometry based models.

Domain (Box) Morphing

Domain or Box Morphing is preformed via boxes that are created around a particular part or assembly that the user intends to morph. The movement of the Morphing boxes control points defines the morphing operations on the entities inside the Morph box. This type of Morphing can be applied to both FE and Geometry based models.

Direct Morphing

ANSA’s Direct morphing features gives the user the ability to efficiently modify a part locally without having to create Morphing boxes. This method is extremely useful in creating local modifications on single parts. Creation of depressions, surface fitting certain FE part features to new target geometry, moving selected features along the contour of a surface and also the ability to freeze (rigid) elements during the morphing process are some of the direct morphing abilities.

Parametric Morphing

The desired morphing actions can be saved as parameters which can be accessed in batch mode. Users can enforce desired shape changes by changing numerical input value for the appropriate parameter. This method of morphing is highly utilized for coupling of the morphing operations to an external optimizer. The scripting capability can be used in conjunction with ANSA’s parametric morphing functionality to deliver faster DOE models.

Geometry Morphing

ANSA brings to the CAE world its ‘one – of – a kind’ tool for CAD geometry morphing. This pioneering concept allows the user to utilize the inventory of all the familiar FE morphing functions to perform equivalent operations in a CAD environment on geometric entities.
