Week 8 - Challenge 6 - Core & Cavity Design

*regarding this above pitcher in sand color is my core and the solid in green color is my cavity and between of those two solids is my solid plastic component and the dotted line which present the outer
area of plastic component is my parting line
*parting line
The location of a plastic parting line is determined both by mold function and part function. The parting line is where the mold opens, so easy ejection from that point is required. It may also be visible and affect the functionality of the final part.
At Rex Plastics, we will work to decide the most optimal parting line that allows for easy mold operation and a final product that is to your satisfaction. In the image to the left, the parting line follows the edge of the part designed and molded by Rex Plastics. This is where the seam of the mold was. It is often ideal
*parting surface
A parting surface is a surface that separates the mold block into two parts – the core and the cavity.
* core
- A core is a device used in casting and molding processes to produce internal cavities and reentrant angles (an interior angle that is greater than 180°). The core is normally a disposable item that is destroyed to get it out of the piece. They are most commonly used in sand casting but are also used in die casting and injection molding.
*cavaity
Cavity is the upper half of the injection mold usually the show surface of the finished product but is mainly concave. Molds are designated as a single cavity or multi-cavity.
