Week 8 - Challenge 6 - Core & Cavity Design
WEEK 8 - CHALLENGE 6 - CORE AND CAVITY DESIGN
AIM : To create the Core and cavity blocks for the switch bezel designed part.
Switch bezel part :

IMPORTANT NOTE :
- Tree Structure
- Tooling Axis
- Switch Bezel Solid / Surface body
- Parting Line and Parting Surface.
- Ensure Proper Tree Structure
- Geometrical sets should have a proper name based on the sketches present inside of it
- All the sketches should be created under the Geometrical set
- Use the Close Surface feature to make a solid body from the surface.
- Publications: Use the publication option and publish the below
SWITCH BEZEL DESIGN IN CATIA V5 :
TOOLING AXIS CREATION :

- Initially extract the base surface for point creation, after make the axis system on that point.
- Next step is make intersection curve on YZ plane to make bisecting curve in by sketch positioning tool.
- Next same as the making the intersection curve on given class A surface on by using the ZX plane, next is make the same as thebisecting curve in sketch positioning tool.
- Next is make the bisecting line between the two two lines of two sketches i.e., Tooling Axis creation.

SWITCH BEZEL SOLID PART IN CATIA :

DRAFT ANALYSIS OF SOLID CATPART:
The Draft Analysis command enables you to detect if the part you drafted will be easily removed. This type of analysis is performed based on color ranges identifying zones on the analyzed element where the deviation from the draft direction at any point, corresponds to specified values.
- Before going to drat analysis go to customized view parameter >under mesh >check material and then click ok.
- Now for draft analyses go to insert » analysis » feature draft analysis.
- Use the compasss to define the draft direction.
- In the colour scale change the draft angle to 3 degree.
- The component changes to green in indication of passing draft angle.
- Use running point to check the angle on the component.

CORE AND CAVITY DESIGN IN CATIA V5 :
Core-cavity - A term used to describe a mold created by mating A-side and B-side mold halves.
CORE CLOSURE SURFACE OF DIFFERENT VIEWS :

\
CORE SOLID CATPART OF DIFFERENT VIEWS :
- Core - A portion of the mold that goes inside a cavity to form the interior of a hollow part.
- Core-cavity - A term used to describe a mold created by mating A-side and B-side mold halves.

Tree Structure of Core Design :

CAVITY CLOSURE SURFACE OF DIFFERENT VIEWS :
- A mold is a hollow form typically made from stainless steel that has plastic injected into it to manufacture a plastic part.
- The plastic is inserted into the mold cavity, which is a hole in the mold shaped like the desired part.

CAVITY SOLID CATPART OF DIFFERENT VIEWS :

Tree Structure of Cavity Design :

PARTING SURFACE OF CORE AND CAVITY DESIGN IN CATIA V5 :
- Generally injection mold has two major components : the movable half and the fixed half, during the injecction molding process, these two halves are pressed tightly from a sealed hollow to avoid the melt flow leakage and maintain certain holding pressure, the pressed surface are called parting surface , usually parting surface are the biggest projection outline of the part.

PARTING LINE OF CORE AND CAVITY OF MOLD OF SWITCH BEZEL :
- A parting line is an inevitable part of injection molded products.
- It is the line of separation between where two halves of a mold meet.
- It manifests itself on injection molded parts as a line that runs the entire perimeter of the part.
- In most parts, it is just a line that runs straight down the middle.

INTERSECTION CURVES OF CORE, CAVITY, PARTING SURFACE AND SWITCH BEZEL TOTAL MOLD ASSEMBLY :

PUBLICATION :
- Publication is done to the component to make it visible and navigate easily.
- To publish the component go to tools > publications and then select the tooling axis and the class A surface.
- A separate tree structure is formed under the main part.

CONCLUSION :
Hence, finally created core and cavity blocks of Mould of Switch bezel component.
