Week 8 - Challenge 5 - Core & Cavity Design

AIM : To create core and cavity block.

Molding is a manufacturing technique which is used to shape molten or pliable raw material using rigid frame called mold or matrix.

Core block forms internal block of mold and Cavity forms external block of mold.

Class A surface of witch bezel.

Class B is generated.

In the images given below, parting surface is first formed using Trim. Class C and B are considered and trimmed.

Parting surface is an important feature. In injection molding ,the movable and fixed halves are pressed together to avoid leakage of molten liquid material. The pressed surface is called parting surface.

Parting surface is considered in Class B as it is in non visible side for observer. Considering parting in A may affect the aesthetic look.

CORE BLOCK

Use 2D sketch to draw a rectangle.

Extrude it.

Trim the extruded part with parting surface to form core.

CAVITY BLOCK

Repeat the same process. Consider Class B and extruded part for trimming.

Overall view of Core and Cavity.

Convert the material into a part body and translate them to particular distance to get a better view.
