Week 8 - Challenge 5 - Core & Cavity Design

Aim:

To create the Core and Cavity of the Switch Bezel.

Theory:

Core and Cavity:

Core and Cavity are the two parts that combine and makeup a mold for casting. Core is the male part which makes up the Internal surface of the component whereas the Cavity is the female part which makes the outer surface of the components. Core is the moving part and Cavity is the fixed part. The core and cavity are designed keeping in mind the tooling axis of the part for proper ejection of the part from the cavity.

Procedure:

  • Core:

The core is designed using the internal surface of the part. In here, The internal surface is extracted for reference. A block shape is made representing the core. The block shape is then trimmed with the reference surface, making the core.

  • Cavity:

Cavity is designed using the external surface of the part. Cavity is the female part which has the cavity to form the part. The parting line is at the refernce surface of the cavity.A block shape is made representing the cavity. The block shape is then trimmed with the reference surface, making the cavity. The parting line falls on the cavity,i.e. On the B surface.

In here, The Orange block is the Cavity, Green block is the Core, Blue surface is the Parting line, Dashed blue line is the tooling axs and Grey part is the component.

Conclusion:

The Core and Cavity of the Switch Bezel are designed.
