WEEK 8 CHALLENGE 4-COIN HOLDER DESIGN

AIM :

To design a class C surface from a given class A surface and perform the Draft analysis on class A and final plastic part body for a coin holder.

PROCEDURE :

TOOLING AXIS :

In tooling axis we mainly look for holes or shell like features to take the tooling axis priority and in this model due to presence of shell we are going to take tooling axis in normal to the surface and the hole in side will be cleared by the side core.

DRAFT ANALYSIS :

No parts can be ejected from the tool if it is having a straight 90 degree profile from its base surface. A small draft angle is provided to each and every area of the component in order to get an easy removal of the component from the tool. Draft analysis technique is used to analyze whether our part model created in cad is manufacturable based on the draft condition applied. Here the part should get easily removed from the panel dies (in case of Sheet metal part) or Mold (in case of plastic).

Here we are providing a direction in which components should eject inorder to get an easy removal of components from the tool. In other words it also lets us know whether the model is having a draft angle and how much is the draft angle from the tool direction.

DRAFT ANALYSIS PROCEDURE :

Draft analysis of class A surface given :

Here tooling axis is considered normal to the base as there is a shell in that direction.

Change the view mode to Customize View Parameters and select Material option from the view mode.

Next we need select the draft analysis feature tool from the commands

So from the above image the green colour is positive draft and red colour represents here zero draft.

Here zero draft is appeared because of class A vertical surfaces which are not provided with any draft. So the draft angle should be provided in the class A surface.

So next from the given class A surface we should create class B surface by extract, untrim, extrapolate commands to obtain the required class B surface.

Below is the operations done to obtain class B surface.

Below is the image of class B formed surface :

So after obtaining the class B surface here due to of a vertical surfaces we need to take sweep with profile as class A surface and surface as a reference.

Below is the fully formed class C surface after sweep operation :

So after getting the closed class C surface we need to close the surface with a solid part by using close surface command :

So now we have to perform again draft analysis for the solid part.

The images for the draft analysis for the solid part is given in the below images with different views :

FRONT VIEW :

TOP VIEW :

ISOMETRIC VIEW :

CONCLUSION :

So all faces with green colour is cleared for draft except the faces with vertical is 0 degree draft which should be again given to class A modification for the draft.
