Week 8 - Challenge 1 - Draft Analysis on a Fan Cover
REPORT ON DRAFT ANALYSIS OF FAN COVER:
The draft analysis is a study made to understand the manufacturability of a part of a component. It reviews the draft angles at different positions of the component, which has effects on the molding.
The minimum draft given to a plastic component as per industry standards is 3 degrees.
At first, the given Class-A surface is checked for continuity either by boundary command or by join command.

The model is analyzed visually for the best possible tooling direction.
From X direction it will be difficult to clear the hole
Similarly, From the Y direction, it will be difficult to clear the hole
So, the best possible tooling axis would be Z
The X intersect is created by introducing a coordinate axis system using intersect command. The intersect is used to develop two lines inclined towards the dummy tooling axis. These lines represent the surfaces that would be problematic during the molding operation.
Now, a bisecting line is drawn.

Similarly, with the Y-axis

The above pictures represent the X tooling clearance and the Y tooling clearance respectively
Both the lines are used to create a bisecting line which is the final tooling axis
The final tooling axis is then published.

Now, the draft analysis is using the feature draft analysis tool. The compass is aligned along the Z axis which is the main tooling axis.
Now, the color scale is opened and given a minimum angle to be 3 degrees.
The output is as given below.

All the surfaces are green. This means all the draft angles are more than 3 degrees.
Hence, The draft analysis is done and the part will clear in the main tooling axis.
