Week 8 - Challenge 1 - Base Bracket Design
Report on draft analysis and tooling axis creation
Draft is provided to a plastic component so as to avoid the difficulty in retracting the cavity mould after injecting the plastic into the cavity.
The minimum draft to any plastic component should be 3 mm.hence the Class A surface of Base bracket is analysed for a draft.
The given class A surface consists of two ribs at an angle to the base, the rib walls are also at an angle to the vertical and the angle must be >3° to the vertical. The surface also consists of two holes.
hence in order to have minimum sidecore involvement and minimum cost we must have the tooling axis in line to the axis of the holes.
Tooling axis creation
1.Insert the axis system to the centre of the holes.
2.Take the cross-section of the ribs and draw the lines coincidence to the walls of the ribs.
3.Draw a line Bisecting the previous two lines and this line becomes the tooling axis.
4.now moving on to feature a draft analysis place the compass on the axis and lock it.
5.selecting the mode to full analysis and adjusting the colour variants to different degrees we can get the draft angle analysis of the surface in different colour mode.
<0°-Blue,0°-3°Red,>3°-green.
after performing the feature draft analysis the surface was found to be meeting the requirements of the draft.
