Challenge

Week 8 - Challenge 1 - Base Bracket Design

Aim: To Create the Base Bracket Plastic component through the given Class-A surface. To begin with, the tooling axis for the given Class-A Surface should be created meeting the requirements of the draft angle and at the end perform the Draft analysis on the model.

operations:

  • To create a tooling axis.
  • To do draft abalysis
  • Creating CLASS B surface
  • Creating CLASS C surface.
  • Creating final product.

Material Used:

Plastic base bracket which have lower hardness and stiffnessn also exhibits a cyclic softnening effect in their stress-strain characteristics. It is made up of Thermoset Plastic. It is used in the hydraulic cylinder mounting of the car bonnet.

CLASS A:

The CLASS A surface is given as input for component creation. To continue the design we need to find out the tooling axis for the surface and check all draft using draft analysis. Tooling axis is to find draft analysis to material is good for manufacturing or not.

Draft Analysis for surface A:

Draft analysis is performed on the components where the ejection of materials happens after the material is made inside the tools. The draft analysis is done for 3 degree, so that it can be seen all the surface are more than 3deg.

Creating of Tooling Axis:

Tooling Axis is the direction in which the mold or core and cavity opens is the tooling axis. Checking the connectivity of the surface, this can be done by creating boundaries and create a point and extract a line with Z axis.

CLASS B surface:

The CLASS B surface is the quality finish with minimal imperfections. The class B surfcae is extracted from CLASS A surface which is given as input.It is normally specified on surfaces such as external covers, panels, and parts that are fairly prominent.

CLASS C surface:

The CLASS C surface is the interior surface between CLASS A & B surfaces. It is not visible surface. Class C surface is extracted form Class A surface which the boundary is created. The smooth curve is used and the sweep for the 3 degree is to be done.

Final Trims:

class A+ class C:

To make sure that there is no open boundary between class A&C, we used join option to create single body.

class A + class B+ class C:

For this we have trimmed the surface with class B surface using trim feature.
