Week 8:- 3D Finishing Challenge 2
3D Finishing and Rough Locators
Project Named as P001_Z01_ST010_00_00_BASE_UNIT
whereas,
P = Project no.
Z = Zone no.
ST = Station no.
It is necessary to have two pins to lock the car panel (component). And here one pin must arrest 4 ways (4 translation ) and the other must arrst 2 way (ie rotational ) of car panel.
Some standards dimensions
The pin should engage 3mm to 5mm from the component entry surface.
The distance Between the Pin flange and the bottom of the component must be 10mm to 15mm.
There must be keep space for spacers of 5mm
The spacer's dimensions - are 1 spacer of 2mm, 2 spacers of 1mm and 2 spacers of 0.5mm.

3D Finishing
- After creating the base unit there is 3D finishing. It is a process in which machining surfaces and holes are recognized for that to identify the machining surfaces orange colour is given to the surfaces of the parts. Machining is the process in which the material is cut to a desired final shape and size by a controlled material removal process. It is also known as Subtractive manufacturing.

-After giving the machining surfaces colour coding is given to the holes as Dark blue for the threaded holes and light blue to the Dowel pin holes also the yellow colour is also given to the specific parts where dowel pins are going to be inserted.

- Base plate has several holes which are coincident with the risers holes but they are not nomial their dimensions were in points so to make the holes nomial and also the units nomial to the base plate. Firstly, dimensions are taken then moves the units in either direction where it will be nominal. Also, take care of the pin coincidently that the pin must be coincident with the component holes.

- After that bolts are imported from the library with the specific dimension of the threaded holes of risers, blades, mylars etc.
for eg:- ISO 4762 SCREW M8x50 STEEL HEXAGON SOCKET HEAD
ISO 4762 SCREW M10x45 STEEL HEXAGON SOCKET HEAD etc.

Rough locators
Rough locators are used to help locate workpieces in the automation process.
- Locating refers to the desired location where you want the piece to be it is getting worked on either by a person, team or robot.
- Rough locator is a part designed to guide the operator to locate the car panel onto the pins according.
- A rough locator can be a standard or a make part.
- The accuracy and consistency increase due to the use of rough locators.
- Rough locators are set according to the angle of the respective panel hence part can only be loaded in a defined direction and orientation.
- Accordingly rough locators are created for specific locations the rough locator is created in such a way that it will guide the car panel 10 to 15mm before it will come in contact with the pin.
- Also a distance of 2 - 5mm is kept between the locators and the car panel.
- The rough locator's upper bend is kept at 45 degrees of angle.
