Week 8
Objective - To perform morphing techniques to the component and mention industrial use of morphing.
what is morphing ?
Morphing is a technique of changes the shape and design termonology of the given component withou use of numerical input. the function of morphing can be used to efficently re-shape both FE and geometry based models.
Procedure -
1. Open the given component in ansa.
2. Perform topo and check for geometrical errors and rectify the errors if found.
3. Go to the MORPH module and explore various morphing techniques.
4. Under MORPH MODULE >> BOXES>> NEW select the geometry where morphing needs to be done and create a New morphing box.
5. Use the BOX MORPHING>> MOVE to select the control point and move the morphing box along with different coordinates. this result change in its length and other characteristics of the feature inside the morphing box depending upon the type of movement.
6. The morphing boxes can be split into many parts for more accurate or precise alterations by using BOXES >> SPLIT command .
7. The morph boxes can be deleted later using BOXES >> DELETE command. so that there will be no trace morphing done on the component.
Use cases of morphing in industries -
. Morphing is widely used in automotive industry whenever any new facelift models of any existing car need to be designed. this significantly reduce the desigining time.
. Typical automotive morphing scenarios such as morphing to match styling, upper body to carry over under body matching, morphing sedan to station wagon or SUV etc. can be executed rapidly.
. Specialized morphing such as fillet radius change, section change, pattern replication etc. are also available.
.The tool also assist the design engineers in case of converting an existing hatchback model to a sedan or any other model or vice-versa. in such cases front portion of car remain same and rear portion is modified as per requirement by the use of morph tool. example Honda brio (hatchback) and Honda Amaze (sedan) .
Learning outcome -
1. basic use of morphing .
2. different morphing techniques are discussed.
3. industrial use of morphing.
