Week 8

WORKING ON THE COMPONENT USING MORPHING MODULE

AIM:

The main aim that is considered is to take a model that should be checked with the geometry and then proceed to the morphing module and alter the geometry that is required.

MORPHING:

Morphing a model is mainly defined as the altering or modifying the surface or any geometrical change in appearance that should resulted in a useful and required outcome. Basically this type of operations will be carried out in the industrial production as follows:

  1. Morphing of an automobiles is done when any automobile based company is willing to launch any preceeding model from the present model.
  2. Morphing of a aeroplanes will be done to improve their performances in the aerodynamic aspects and acquire required advantages.
  3. Morphing is also gives an advantage of attracting the customers that prefers them to buy the model.
  4. Morphing is also mainly done in the photography industry.

Post to the morphing the design engineers will work on the model which is altered and recreate the model where morphing is done so that new fined model can be viewed and tested.

PROCEDURE:

As we know that for every cad model after importing to the ANSA that should be performed topo so that all unstiched faces can be stiched and refined using MESH-PERIMETER-LENGTH to 1mm so that model is refined and easy to be carried out for cad morphing as morphing can also be done on the cad model itself.

  • GEOMETRIC CHECKS :

Once the raw model is imported this should be refined and checked for geometric errors as if any single cons, triple cons, unchecked, needle faces etc., were present. The below image shows the model before and after topo clean up.

  • MEASUREMENTS:

After geometry checks is done the measurements for thickness of the model is taken so that it can be used for assigning the thickness after the midsurface if required.

The below image shows the model with measured thickness but the taking of midsurface is need nnot be required as morphing for this model can be done as it was remaining in the cad model.

  • MORPHING PROCEDURE:

After measurements were taken the module is changed to the morphing module when entered into the module a green colour label will be shown at right bottom as morphing active. Basically when choosing the face or any entity that to be morphed care should be taken that the required outcome is useful.

So starting the procedure begins after choosing the entity followed by selecting boxes-box-ortho-geometry under the morph module. Then selecting the entity where a box like structure is appeared and by using option move the box nodes can be adjusted to change the geometry shape.

Split option under the Boxes can also be used in selecting the boxes to divide it into a partitions to work on selectedareas.

So after changing the faces into the required shapes then the model is compared with the original geometry to compare the models and further engeneers can be worked on redesigning the model where the changes were applied.

Model shown below is below and after the model is morphed:

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Learnt the reasons of new rising of the car models as they are related with morphing the design.
  • Learnt the usage of tools like box selections, split, move nodes in the morphing techniques which are included in ANSA.
  • Learnt the area of application and requirements of morphing.

CONCLUSIONS:

As the morphing techniques are most related and reason for evolving the automobile indusries further, the more exposed to these tools can be helpful in laying the way to innovate more altering designs in chosen field of domains.
