Week 7 Challenge

  • Question no 1.
  • Ans -
  • Figure and model file attached below.
  • Aim - To modelling of given structure with details.
  • Introduction - We create a model of structure using nodes and beams. We can follow the steps as per given data.
  • STAAD or (STAAD.Pro) is a structural analysis and design software application originally developed by Research Engineers International in 1997. In late 2005, Research Engineers International was bought by Bentley Systems. Pratt truss is a truss having vertical members between the upper and lower members and diagonal members sloping toward the center
  • Given - Model a structure with following details
    1. Bay spacing 5 m.
    2. Span of Truss 30 m.
    3. Shape of Truss – Pratt Truss.
    4. Slope of truss 20 degree.
    5. Height of the column 15 m.
    6. Floor Beams at 5 m from base.
    7. Secondary beams at 1.5 c/c.
    8. Length of the building 50 m.
    9. Column Supporting Floor Beam @ 6 m c/c Along the frame.
  • Use process to create model.
  • Open the staad application.
  • Go to New view create analytical model with save it.
  • As per given structure and given data use nodes to define.
  • after nodes define, go to beams and define it.
  • Apply nodes and beams to draw model.
  • Draw columns and floor beam by using given data with translation command.
  • At base use support condition as fix and hinge support.
  • After all model create go translation command define length of building model.
  • Question no 2.
  • Ans -
  • Figure and model file attached below.
  • Aim - To Applying Specification and member property for modelled structure.
  • Introduction - Here with apply specification as per command and member property by using given data. Specification is a detailed description of the design and materials used to modelled structure. Member property is property of material with given description to apply on structure for particular purpose.
  • Given - Apply beam steel specification as mentioned below.
    1. Columns - ISMB 500
    2. Truss -Top & Bottom chord – ISA 110x110x12,
    3. Diagonal member – ISA 75x75x8
    4. Purlins – ISMC 150
    5. Tie Beam – SHS – 120x120x10
    6. Floor Primary beams – ISMB 300
    7. Secondary beams - ISMC 150
    8. Floor beam supporting columns – ISMB 300
    9. Assume bottom of the main column as Fixed support & intermediate floor beam supporting column as pinned
    10. Orient the Angle sections by applying Beta angle.
  • Process -
  1. Go to specification in that section database.
  2. Choose indian section.
  3. Define beams, columns, top & bottom chord by selecting section as per given data.
  4. After define of section, go to select groups & assign section for each groups.
  5. For beta angle choose beta angle option.
  6. Create Beta angle & select section to apply it.
  • Question no 3.
  • Ans -
  • Figure and model file attached below.
  • Aim - To create group exercise.
  • Introduction - Here we can create groups to members. Creating groups means there is define grops with each particular member or geometry of the member. We have create groups as per given members.
  • Form group for following members
    1. External column.
    2. Internal columns.
    3. Roof Frames.
    4. Top chord of the Truss.
    5. Primary Beams.
    6. Secondary Beams.
  • Proess -
  1. First open structure model.
  2. Go to geometry create groups.
  3. Give the names of various groups.
  4. Such as external column, internal column, roof frames etc.
  5. After creation of group associate group to member.
  6. check group by highlight option given.
