Week 7 Challenge

AIM: To generate the given Bridge in STAAD Pro, Apply the Water pressure loads and perform analysis.

Procedure:

Assuming Pier Width = 7m

Given Height above Foundation Level = 8m

Thickness of Footing = 0.765m

Thickness of Abutment = 1.065m

Assuming the thickness of deck slab as 0.5m

Water pressure calculation:

Assuming the unit weight of Water as 10 KN/m^3

Total Water pressure due to static load at the Bottom of pier = 10*2 =20KN/m^2

Water pressure due to the movement of water = 52KV^2

Assuming the water velocity of 20 m/sec and the pier is square ended parallel to the flow without inclination

  • Water pressure = 52 x 20x 20 x 1.5= 31200 kg/ m^2

Total horizontal load = 312 KN/m^2

The Analysis of this Structure can be done in following way in Staad Pro.

  1. Using plate element analysis

Generation of model using Plate elements

The figure shows the plate element model the described Bridge

The figures shows the plate thickness of Deckslab considered.

The figures shows the plate thickness of Substructure considered.

The figures shows the plate thickness of Foundation considered.

The figures shows the loading of Water pressure due to currents.

The figures shows the loading of Water pressure on the foundation.

The fig shows the output file with no errors.
