Week 6 Challenge

Aim: Calculate the given Pipe loads, Generate the Bridge model with the given Dimensions and analyse the structure using Staad

Procedure:

Given

Width of the Deck = 3 m

Span = 24m

Dia of Pipes = 700 Dia and 200 dia pies

Cross girders for every 3 m

A truss modelled Bridge

Assuming the cross-sections as

ISMB 300 for the Piers

ISMB 250 For the Main and Cross Beams, vertical members

ISMB 200 for Bottom and top Chord bracings

ISMB 100 for Side Bracings

Deck slab thickness as 250mm

Calculations

Unit weight of Steel = 78.5 KN/m^3

C/s Area of 700mm Dia pipe = 3.14*0.7*0.7*0.25 – 3.14*0.629*0.629*0.25 = 0.0741 m^2

C/s Area of 200mm Dia pipe = 3.14*0.2*0.2*0.25 – 3.14*0.179*0.179*.25= 0.006248 m^2

load of NB 700 pipe = 0.0741 * 78.5 = 5.9 KN/m

In a metre I have 6 nodes and this load is equally distributed on all 6 nodes = 5.9/6= 1KN

load of NB 200 pipe = 0.006248 * 78.5 = 0.49 KN/m

In a metre I have 6 nodes and this load is equally distributed on all 6 nodes = 0.49/6= 0.1KN

Water load in the water 700 NB = 3.14 *0.7*0.7*0.25 = 0.38465 m^2

Water load in the water 200 NB = 3.14 * 0.2*0.2*0.25 = 0.0314 m^2

load of NB 700 pipe = 0.38465 * 10 = 3.8465 KN/m

In a metre I have 6 nodes and this load is equally distributed on all 6 nodes = 3.8465/6= 0.641KN

load of NB 200 pipe = 0.0314 * 10 = 0.314 KN/m

In a metre I have 6 nodes and this load is equally distributed on all 6 nodes = 0.314/6= 0.524KN

Total load of 700 NB pipe = 1+0.641 = 1.641 KN

Total Load of 200 NB pipe = 0.1+0.524 =0.624 KN

Model generation:

A Bridge model is generated using the given calculations

model generated in isometric view

Front view showing the side bracings

Top view showing the top and bottom chord bracings

ISMB 250 property is assigned to all the main members

ISMB 100 is assigned to Side bracings

ISMB 200 is assigned to bottom and top chord members

ISMB 300 is assigned to piers

Seismic Definitions is defined

Since truss type structure the Nodal loads are applied

The analysis popup showing that the analysis is successful
