Week 7- Base Unit Design Challenges 2
REPORT ON BASE UNIT DESIGN:
INTRODUCTION:
The base unit is the like a foundation for the other fixture parts are assembled on.The units like pin units rest unit and clamp units are mounted on the base unit. The base plate in base unit drilled with holes for the fixation and there standards for the positioning of holes.Generally base plate is made of steel and aluminium with a nominal thickness between 25-40mm.The parts associated with base unit are mostly welded to it rather than fixed by screws. In this report a base unit design explained. There are additional parts like phneumatic, valve box, trunking channel for the wire routing and electrical unit.
1.BASE PLATE:
The base plate is metal component with a thickness of 20mm given to it.Its basically drilled with holes for the fixation of other units to be mounted on it.

2.TUBES:
The tubes are welded to the plate and also provide relevant strength to the base unit. Most of the tubes are standardized and are available from thickness from 2mm.A 2mm thickness tubes are used in the current design and 6 tubes arranged,4 around the cornors and 2 in betweeen. The middle tubes will provide the strength to cornor weld tubes.

3.WELD PLATES:
Weld plates are weldments welded to the tubes which provide support to the pedestals and most likely they provide the relevant area of the weld to maintain the stability of the base unit.
3.1 WELD PLATES UNDER THE TUBES:

3.2 WELD PLATES WELDED TO PESDESTALS AND UPPER PLATES:

4.PEDESTALS:
Pedestals are the vertical tubes which balance the units weight. The the standard length from the car panel to the base of the pesdestal should not exceed 1000mm.

5.FLOOR PLATES:
Foor plates are the bottom plates welded with pdestals and mounted the floor and the weld bars are provided to permanently weld with pedestals.M24 holes are drilled and the floor plates are positioned so that they cover thier base area.
