Week 6-Meshing of Hood Challenge
Meshing of Hood Challenge
Objective-
Meshing of given CAD Model (Hood) and achieve stated Quality criteria using Hypermesh.
A. Inner Extract-
CAD Model Image-

Fig.-1
Procedure-
- Import the provided CAD Model and analyze it properly. If there exist any problem in model through Quick Edit & surface edit panel, rectify the problem and proceed for mid-surface extraction. Fig. 2 Shows the extracted mid surface.

Fig.-2
- Now, analyze the mid-surface properly, if any surface or edge is missing fix it and proceed for meshing.
- Now go to the automesh and enter the element size as 5 and start meshing as shown in fig. 3.

Fig.-3
- Now, through preferences tab set the mesh criteria mentioned in the challenge as shown in fig. 4.

Fig.-4
- Since the object is symmetric, here we will mesh the half portion first and at later will reflect the mesh on the other portion.
- Now, mesh the half portion of the object as shown in fig. 5. To maintain the proper mesh flow lines use the option Rebuild mesh. During meshing also pay attention towards element connectivity. If elements are connected properly using equivalence proper connectivity can be achieved.

Fig.-5
- After meshing, go for quality index checking as shown in fig. 6.

Fig.-6
- If suppose during quality checking some of the elements failed to achieve the quality criteria, through clean up tools as shown in fig. 7 and using options such as translate, split element, combine element and by remeshing particular surface quality criteria can be achieved.

Fig.-7
- Now, check whether the quality criteria is achieved, if achieved reflect the mesh on the other side as shown in fig.8 & 9.

Fig.-8

Fig.-9
- Now assign the thickness and save the model as Hood (Inner Extract) mesh.hm.

Procedure-
- Import the provided CAD Model and analyze it properly. If there exist any problem in model through Quick Edit & surface edit panel, rectify the problem and proceed for mid-surface extraction. Since, there are two models we will extract two separate mid-surfaces as shown in Fig. 23 & 24.

Fig.-24
- Now, analyze the mid-surface properly, if any surface or edge is missing fix it and proceed for meshing.
- Now go to the automesh and enter the element size as 5 and start meshing two objects separately.
- Now, through preferences tab set the mesh criteria mentioned in the challenge as shown in fig. 25.

Fig.-25
- Now, mesh the object as shown in fig. 26 & 27. To maintain the proper mesh flow lines use the option Rebuild mesh. During meshing also pay attention towards element connectivity. If elements are connected properly using equivalence proper connectivity can be achieved & check the quality index. If suppose during quality checking some of the elements failed to achieve the quality criteria, through clean up tools and using options such as translate, split element, combine element and by remeshing particular surface quality criteria can be achieved.
