Week 6-Meshing of Hood Challenge

AIM: TO extract the midsuface of the given hood inner part and to mesh it with given quality criteria.

PROCEDURE:

1. Imported the hood model to hypermesh in STEP format.
2. Model was checked for any missing of surfaces or deformations
3. Mid surface of the model was done by using skin offset method.
4. Mid surface of the model was checked to find any missing or deformations.

. Missing of surface was found in the mid surface.

5. Missing surface was created by spline option in 2D.

6. Geometric cleanup of midsurface

1.Features lines which are irrelevent and causes the min size are supressed by using toggle line option in surface edit.

2.Further automatic geometric cleanup was done using Autoclean option in Geometry.

  3. Washer split from surface edit option is used to creaete feature line at the borders of circular features to preserve the shape of cad in FE model.

7. Since the componenet has symmetric geometry, half of the surface is deleted and rest is
   taken for meshing.

8. Quality criteria for the mesh is provided in criteria file settings in preference .

9.Mesh is done on the mid surface by using mesh option (mixed) from 2D option.

10.Geometry colour option and geometry element options are changed to TOPO mode and Element by quality respectively
11.Mesh contains error elements which are corrected by using remeshing, cleanup tools such as place nodes, combine to quad element, split to tria element, create options etc.

12.Reflect option from the Tool option is used to create the symmetric part. Both mesh as well as the mid surface is also generated by using reflect option.

13. Property(thickness 0.75) and material is assigned to the midsurface

Conclusion:

Obtained the mid surface of the hood and meshed according to the quality criteria.
