Week 6-Meshing of Hood Challenge
MESHING OF HOOD CHALLENGE:
OBJECTIVE: To extract the mid surface, geometry cleanup and meshing of the given hood component using the given quality criteria checks
CAD MODEL:

PROCEDURE:
INNER EXTRACT

Step 1:
- Import the geometry in the Hypermesh workspace.
- Delete the solids
- Check the geometry for any missing surfaces.
Step 2:
- Delete the solids
- After deleting the inner extract solid part extract its mid surface.
- Here the offset + plane + sweep option is used for extracting the mid surface.
- After extracting the mid surface, geometry cleaning is done on the inner extract.
- Unnecessary edges are removed using the toggle edit command on quick edit so that they won't create problems while meshing.
- Property and material is assigned to the inner extract.

Step 3:
- Generating the mesh with the given quality criteria
- If any elements are failing for quality then cleanup tools option inside the quaity index can be used.
- Clean up tools used-----> element optimise, place node, split quad elements, quick edits etc
- Quality criteria-
| S.N | Quality Criteria | Value |
| 1 | Aspect Ratio | 5 |
| 2 | Skewness | 45 |
| 3 | Warping | 15 |
| 4 | Taper | 0.5 |
| 5 | Min. Length | 2 Units |
| 6 | Max. Length | 8 Units |
| 7 | Min angle Quad | 45 |
| 8 | Max angle Quad | 135 |
| 9 | Min angle Tria | 20 |
| 10 | Max angle Tria | 120 |
| 10 | Tria % | 10 |
- The target element size was set to 5.
- All quality criteria values were set according to the given values.

OUTER EXTRACT
THE ABOVE STEPS ARE REPEATED FOR THE REMAINING SUB COMPONENTS

HINGE REINFORCEMENT EXTRACT

LATCH REINFORCEMENT EXTRACT:

CONCLUSION:
The mid surface has been extracted for the given hood panel and the mesh was generated within the given quality criteria.
