Week 6-Introduction to Ansys ACT Challenge
Objective - To install a scripted extension and convert it into Binary Extension and perform several operation using it.
- What is an API?
An Application Program Interface (API) is a set of routines, protocols, and tools for building software applications. Basically, an API specifies how software components should interact.
What are Binary and Scripted Extensions?
Binary Extensions – A Binary Extension is an extension that has been compiled into a WBEX file. A binary extension can be shared with users who can execute the extension. However, they cannot view or edit the contents of the compiled WBEX file.
Scripted Extensions – A Scripted extension consists of a XML extension definition file and an IronPython Script. It can also include supporting files, such as custom help or input files. Callbacks in the XML file invoke the functions or methods defined in the script.
XML extension definition file – Defines and configures the content of the extension.
IronPython Script – Defines the functions that are invoked by user interactions and implements the extension’s behaviour.
- Install the given scripted extensions.
Scripted Extension Provided – Selection Toolbar
Delete GUID from given scripted extension and try to install it, read the log file
From the scripted extensions, create a Binary Extension and install it in Workbech.
Install the ‘Selection Toolbar’ binary extension and import the given gear model. Using the ‘Selection Toolbar’ option, create Named Selections for the below given specifications.
- All the Cylindrical faces in the gear.
- All the common edges of the gears.
- All the faces smaller than 10mm^2
- All the Vertices of the faces smaller than 10 mm^2
- Select entities smaller than the cylindrical surfaces.
Conclusion- After end of this assignment, installation of ACT, difference between Binary and Scripted Extension is learned.
