Challenge

Week 6 - Creating connection for Rear door

Week 6 Challenge report –

First of all, we need to separate PID wherever we want to make connection.

There are 3 types of connection we will be use in this particular challenge

  1. C bush
  2. Bolt
  3. Hinge
  4. Spot weld
  5. Seam weld
  1. C Bush connection – this we will be use between glass and their surrounding body.
  • Create curve by using “Feat2curve” at the bottom of the glass.
  • Translate(copy) at the transvers direction with distance 10.
  • Translate(move) at the opposite transvers direction with distance 10.
  • Repeat the same for second glass bottom too.
  • Convert these curves to spot line.
  • Go to connection manager.
  • Select the converted spot line.
  • Give Space as 10 and select P1(right click) as glass and P2 as surrounding body by shift+F1.
  • Give connection type as RBE3CBUSH RBE3.
  • Search distance – 20
  • Select P bush by (shift +?).
  • Provide new P bush and give the transfer and rotational by K1…K6 as 1,1,1,10,10,10.
  • Then apply and realize.
  • Repeat the same at all side of the glass.
  1. Bolt connection – This we will be using where 2 holes are going to be constraint to each other.
  • Create 3D point (by on COG) where we want to provide bolt connection.
  • Convert 3D point to bolt.
  • Select bolt by connection manager and select P1 & P2.
  • FE representation type as “bolt”
  • Provide search distance as 10-20.
  • Then apply and realize.
  • Repeat the same with bottom bracket.
  1. Hinge connection:- This we will be using where we required 1 rotation motion rest all need to be fixed.
  • Create 3D point (by on COG) where we want to provide bolt connection.
  • Convert 3D point to bolt.
  • Select bolt by connection manager and select P1 & P2.
  • FE representation type as “bolt”
  • Go to Nastran deck > elements> RBE2> 2 nodes.
  • Give name as “hinge”
  • Select centre of both bolts.
  • CM to maintain as “12345”.
  • Then apply and realize.
  1. Spot weld- This we will be use between where 2 parallel endless surface occurring.
  • Create 3D point (by on COG) at the centre of the shell where we want to create spot weld.
  • Convert the 3D point to spot weld.
  • Open connection manager and select the well and P1, P2 as both PID.
  • Select FE representation type as RBE3-Hexa-RBE3.
  • Provide search distance as 10.
  • Then apply and realize.
  • This weld will be solid weld.
  1. Seam weld connection – This type of connection we are using where ended sheets are matching.
  • create a curve by using the feature2 curve(Mesh>Perimeters>Feat2Curve) option.
  • convert the curve to a seam line.
  • open connection manager and we have to the PID’s(P1,P2)
  • Fe representation - Overlap Shell (For Parallel Surfaces) or Y-joint Shell ( For Perpendicular Surfaces)
  • Enter Search distance 10.
  • choose the Proper base sheet.
  • provide the width value as the target element size.
  • create the weld pid.
  • Then apply and realize it.
