Week 6:- Clamp Unit & Pin-Clamp Unit Design Challenge
INTRODUCTION:
The swivel clamp unit design is similar to that of nominal clamp unit exept we use a swivel cylinder in place phnuematic cylinder with a stroke of 100mm.The swevil cylinder is piston cylinder,thus the clamp arm arm position is decided upon the stroke of cylinder.The mechanism involved here is like the piston crank mechanism.The rotation angle is controlled by the pivot support.A stopper is provided to avoid the sudden impact of the finger on the component.

1. CLAMP ARM:
The clamp arm design is different compared to other unit,its has increased length in dimensional perspective and can support more load which makes it a good gripping part with increased strength.
2. FINGER MYLAR:
The finger mylar for clamp units with swevil cylinder can be different.For their increased dimensional qauntities they have increased strength and tightened grip.
3. REST MYLAR:
The rest mylars used in the current design are the same NC blocks of finger,the aligment is shown in the below picture.This kind of gripping can quite be tight cause it covers most of the area for clamping the component.
4. BLADE:
The blade in this unit is femer which holds most of the parts.Thus,the design of the blade has to ensure favourable strength and cost effective.It has the beam to support the rest mylars and two ports to support the cylinder.The position of the pivot port is ensured so that a 100mm stroke retaction is possible which gives the clamp arm a 90 degree of rotation.The bottom port is simply for to support the cylinder.The is extended so that a standard riser assembly can be used.
5. SWEVIL CYLINDER:
The swevil cylinder which is a mechanical pistion unit
6. RISER:
The riser used is the standard L block riser from the retractable pin unit
7. STOPPER ASSEMBLY:
The stopper is used to aviod the impact of sudden weight from the clamp arm 
8. PIVOT SUPPORT:
The pivot support is provided which guides the clamp arm in a path of its retraction.The way that pivot works is a pin with screw head is assembled into the pin port and two stopper are mounted on the clamp arm which lock the suppoert bars with clamp arm.
