Week 6 - CHT Analysis on a Graphics card
Aim: To simulate the steady state conjugate heat transfer analysis on a graphic card model.
Introduction: A steady state conjugate heat transfer analysis is a common heat transfer problem associated with the electronic circuits of various electronic components. In this problem we have simulated the heat transfer from the heat source (Processor) which generates heat due to processing of data to generate output and act as constant heat source with fixed heat generation rate. This heat get convected through the air blown over the PCB circuit, also to increase the heat convection from the processor surface the aluminium surface with extruded fins ia attached herewith to provide enlarged contection surface with conduction of heat from processor surface.
Theory: In this problem, the air is flown over the PCB circuit at different velocities at 1m/s, 3m/s, 5m/s. Also we have defined the the PCB material as Polystyrene, Processor as Silicon and Fins of Aluminium. This conjugate heat transfer analysis is useful in various electronics industries to study the rate of heat generation within the electronics components and amount of heat convection is required to maintain the components temperature to prevent brakdown in circuits.
All other spaceclaim, meshing, solver and post processing details are carried forward in attached file.
