Challenge

Week 6-3D Tetra Meshing Challenge

REPORT

OBJECTIVE

To generate 3D tetra mesh on the given 3 models passing all the quality criteria.

PROCEDURE

There are 3 models to generate tetra mesh. Consider model 1

First i suppressed all the cuts that are failing for minimum length criteria using F11- toggle edge. Removed all the free edges and prepare the model for meshing.

Then using F12 meshed all the surface. Taken element size as 4 because size 5 is failing for many elements and 4 is better for this model. Some element were failing.

I fixed it using F3- replace node.

And to convert this into 3D elements I used 3D- tetra mesh. Elements were successfully created. And I checked for F10- 3D- tetcollapse.

Model 2

Like before done all the geometric clean up, using toggle edge.

Then using 3D-tetra mesh-volume tetra-solids, I created 3D tetra mesh. And checked for tet collapse , some elements were failing.

Fixed it using replace node.

Tetra mesh generation is completed.

Model 3

This model have 5 parts, so I take one part first.

First I toggled all the unwanted cuts and then go to geom-defeature to remove unwanted curves.

Fixed all the free edges.

After that went to view-browsers-hypermesh-utility-geom/mesh-quick tetramesh. There is a similar part like this I used similar procedure for that also. Then i went to other part.

Applied defeaturing.

Fixed all the geometric errors. Created tetra mesh using quick tetra mesh. Checked for tet collapse. And reflected this part, there was symmetric part to this.

There is one part left to mesh,

I toggled unwanted cuts. And used 3D-tertramesh-volume tetra for meshing and checked for tet collapse but 11 elements were failing,

And I fixed it using F4 changing element height.

No elements were failing.

RESULT

Successfully generated 3D tetra elements for the given models. No elements is failing for the quality criteria. The models are submitted below.

MODEL 1 is submitted as MODEL 1 TETRA

MODEL 2 is submitted as MODEL 2 TETRA

MODEL 3 is submitted as MODEL 3 TETRA.
