Rear Door of Car-Realizing connections using NASTRAN

Aim:

To make the various connection in the FE model of the Rear Door.

Procedure:

1) At first the door Hinges are connected. The fixed part of the hinge is connected using the RBE2 many nodes element, where as the door opening mechanism is connected with RBE2 two nodes element with only 5 degrees of freedom, leaving the rotaional z axis unconstrained.

2) The areas with Nut and Bolt connections are connected by coverting the 3D point into a bolt representation and realising the connections using BOLT in the Connection Manager dialogue box.

3) Spot Weld connection is made at places where the Nut and Bolt connection cannot be determined.A COG is created at the Spotweld place. The COG is converted to Spotweld Point. The Spotweld Point is then converted to a Spotweld element using the RBE3-HEXA-RBE3 type in the connection manager.

In here, the connection is made to the support guiding the mirror in and out the door.

4) The support guiding the mirror is attched to the mirror for stablility of the mirror during analysis and the FE model is connected using RBE2 many nodes elements.

5) The Window glass and Door pane are connected using RBE3-CBUSH-RBE3 elements, which has 6 Stiffness coeffifcient values with respect to the axis.At first the perimeter of the Glass is converted to a curve. Then the curve is converted to Spotweld line. The Spotweld line is the realised using connection manager to RBE3-CBUSH-RBE3 element.

The elements are made to coordinate the global axis by changing the orient to "with chord" and changing the CID to "0"

6) The Handle of the door is connected using the RBE2 many nodes elements and a mass is defined to it using the CONM2 element.A mass of 100g is realised.

Result:

Therefore the connections are realised to the Rear Door using the NASTRAN deck.
