Week- 5 - Solid meshing
Aim:
For the given Rearview mirror component, check for the geometrical errors and mesh the Surfaces with the given 2D element Quality criteria’s given below.

Use tetra elements to mesh the Volumes defined in the model and check for the below quality after Volume meshing.

Procedure:
- Import Model
Open the given (Rearview mirror.IGS) model in ANSA.

- Geometry Clean-up
Using Topo for the entire geometry, single cons are eliminated.
The components are checked for geometry clean-up using Checks > Geometry and clean up the errors using auto fix and use topo tools like new face, delete and topo etc. to achieve 100%.

- Shell meshing (2D)
The Mesh parameters and Quality criteria as per requirement is set as follows,
|
Target/Average length |
1 |
|
Minimum Length |
0.5 |
|
Maximum Length |
2 |
Tria type is selected.

Perimeter and macros are set for 1mm using the length in the perimeter option of the mesh tab.
Using Mesh Generation -> Spot, each macro has meshed. (Curved Surface – Ortho tria & others – tria).
Mesh Quality is improved using Shell mesh -> Reconstruct.

- Solid Meshing (3D)
The Quality criteria as per requirement are set as follows,
|
Tet collapse |
0.2 |
Define closed volumes separately for each component using Define -> Manual -> Manual by selecting each component.
3 volumes are defined, because of 3 different components to avoid penetration: intersection error while 3d meshing.
In List, select each component re-mesh it using Tetra FEM.
Failed 3d elements are fixed by fix quality (Improve tab of Volume Mesh) or using MV free (Grids tab of Mesh).

Learning Outcome:
To do 3D mesh for the component by various methods mainly unstructured mesh ( Tetra FEM & Tetra Rapid ), Structured and fix quality errors.
Conclusion:
Thus, the given rearview mirror geometry is successfully meshed by 3d elements as per the given quality criteria.
