Week- 5 - Solid meshing
OBJECTIVE
For the given Rear view mirror component, check for the geometrical errors and mesh the Surfaces with the given 2D element Quality criterias given below.
- Target Length= 1 mm
- Minimum length = .5 mm
- Maximum Length = 2 mm
Use tetra elements to mesh the Volumes defined in the model and check for the below quality after Volume meshing.
Tet collapse = .2
PROCEDURE
Step 1: Topological Cleanup
- Do topo on the given model.
- Go to Geometry Checks.Select needle surfaces, single cons, triple cons, overlapped surfaces and cracks etc.
- Remove errors automatically or manually.

Step 2: Surface Meshing
- Give target length ,minimum length and maximum length as 1mm,0.5mm and 2 mm in mesh parameters and quality criteria.
- Select element as ortho tria, and do mesh on the curved surfaces.
- Select element as tria and mesh on flat surfaces.
- Remove off elements using reconstruct, smooth and paste options.

Step 3: Volume meshed
- Go to volume module.Click on define and define the volumes.
- Do volume mesh with tetra fem on each volumes.
- Give tet collapse s 0.2 in quality criteria.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Understood how to do topological clean up and surface meshing with ortho tria elements and tria elements.
- Understood how to define volumes and mesh with tetra elements.
- Understood how to remove elements failing in tet collapse criteria.
RESULT
For the given Rear view mirror component, checked for the geometrical errors and meshed the Surfaces with the given 2D element.Volume meshed with tetra fem elements.
CONCLUSIONS
Tetra is an unstructured mesh type.It takes less time to mesh compared with hexa mesh.
