Week 5 Challenge : Surface wrap on Automotive Assembly
Week 5 Challenge: Surface wrap on Automotive Assembly
AIM:
For the given models, check for the geometrical errors and delete surfaces that are unwanted for the Surface wrap as shown in the videos.
After clearing geometry, Merge all 3 models and perform surface wrap.
Target length for Wrap = 3 mm
GIVEN MODEL:
Model 1: (ENGINE)

Model 2: (GEARBOX)

Model 3: (TRANSMISSION)

TOPO Cleanup Procedure:
- As we see the model given has many single cons, we want to do some Geometry checks to explore what are the errors we are encountering here,
- SINGLE CONS- the edge which is shared by only one surface.
- DOUBLE CONS- the edge which is shared by two surfaces.
- TRIPLE CONS- the edge which is shared by three surfaces.
- And the model has some overlapped surfaces which have to delete to reduce the error during the meshing process.
- We have to check the triple cons also, in which region they are needed or not.
- Delete the unwanted ring structure as shown in the below picture.

All the openings in the geometry are closed using creating a new cons option.
Steps 1 and 2 are repeated for the transmission and the gearbox geometries.

Now that the geometric errors are solved, all the 3 components are merged into a single geometry. file> merge> merge model with current model

To surface wrap the geometry go to mesh> elements> wrap> constant length. Here give the target length as 3mm for all the components as per the problem statement.

Conclusions:
Hence, the assembly of the engine, transmission, and the gearbox is surface wrapped with the target length of 3mm.
