Aim:
To check for geometrical errors on the given individual components (engine, transmission, gearbox), and delete the unwanted surfaces. Then surface-wrap the engine, transmission, and gearbox assembly with a set target length using ANSA.
Problem statement:
1. Delete all the unwanted components present in the individual geometry for the surface mesh.
2. For the engine, transmission, and gearbox assembly, perform the surface wrap with the target length of 3mm using ANSA.
Solution:
1. Import the engine geometry into ANSA.
2. All the components which are insignificant to the surface-wrap operation are deleted, this includes the cluster of circular geometries as shown in the above figure, which is used by the design engineer to generate fillets and other design features. The connecting pipes/wires, and the belt drives are also deleted to simplify the surface wrap. All the open holes are filled so that surface-wrap is not created inside the geometry. Once this is done, save the geometry.
3. Steps 1 and 2 are repeated for the transmission and the gearbox geometries.
4. Now that the geometric errors are solved, all the 3 components are merged into a single geometry. file> merge> merge model with current model
5. To surface wrap the geometry go to mesh> elements> wrap> constant length. Here give the target length as 3mm for all the components as per the problem statement.
Conclusions:
Hence, the assembly of the engine, transmission, and the gearbox is surface wrapped with the target length of 3mm.
