Week 5 Battery characteristics using drive cycle

Battery characteristics using drive cycle

The objective of the question is to analyze the charge /discharge characteristics for a specific drive cycle.

A driving cycle is a series of data points representing the speed of a vehicle versus time. Driving cycles are produced by different countries and organizations to assess the performance of vehicles in various ways, as for example fuel consumption and polluting emissions.

UDDS drive cycle.UDDS stands for Urban Dynamometer Driving Schedule.

The generic battery block implements a generic dynamic model that represents the most popular types of rechargeable batteries.

We use a signal builder block to create the drive cycle data of the UDDS cycle. The limitation of the signal builder is that it accepts data in the form of only the current profile. So, the speed v/s time data from drive cycle has been converted to its corresponding current profile with respect to time.

1. First of all we have created a current profile sheet after converting speed v/s time data from UDDS drive cycle

2. Then import the data using excel file to signal builder block.

3. We took the generic battery, signale builder block, controlled current source, bus selector, powergui, and source element blocks from library browser

4. Simulate it and read the plot results.

Results:-

From this graph we can observe the change in-

- SOC about 95.8 % remaining after 1375 seconds.

- The voltage drops from 8.4 V toalmost 7.9 V in this period.

- The current has shown both positive and negetive varitions between -5 to 8 Amp as the charging and discharging took place.

During charging(due to regenertive braking) the current goes negetive and while acclerating went again positive.

The current increses when voltage decrease as observed in graph.
