Week 5
Objective: Perform tetra mesh on the given CAD model of Rearview mirror by eliminating geometrical errors and also avoiding kinks and dips on the surface of the component.
Quality criteria to be followed:
Target/Average length 1
Minimum length 0.5
Maximum length 2
Collapse 0.2
Procedure:
- Perform topology for the given model and eliminate errors shown in the geometry checks (checks manager)
- Quality criteria values are assigned and the hot points/nodes are arranged as per target length in mesh>perimeters>length>(perimeters, macros).
- Mesh is generated using spot mesh where element type is either ortho tria or tria.
- Ortho tria is used for curved surfaces and tria is used for plane surfaces.
- Mesh is now present only on the surface and volume inside this is to be filled using tetrahedral elements.
- This 3D meshing is generated by V.Mesh>Volumes.
- First volumes elements should be defined as PSOLIDs and remesh is carried out for each of these defined PSOLIDs in List tab.
- Tetra Rapid or Tetra FEM can be used for volume meshing.
- Collapsed elements need to be arranged manually to eliminate errors.
- Kinks or Dips should not be present in the mesh model.

Learning Outcomes:
- Learned to use volumetric unstructured mesh by both Tetra rapid and Tetra FEM element types.
- Learned to eliminate collapsed elements.
Conclusion:Volume meshing using tetra elements for the given rearview mirror model is performed as per given quality criteria
