Challenge

Week 4- Rolling operation

Introduction

To study the behaviour of the copper workpiece that is fed to the rolling operation. This study helps to understand how the kinematics like displacement and rotation of the model is controled by the analysis steps.

Objective

To run the simulations in the given model succeessfully with the given dimentions. The directional displacement of the copper workpiese must be 90mm that is inputted throughout the 14 steps of the simulation. And to elaborate the specific results that is used to essential engineering assumptions and further Design optimization.

CAD model that is used for the simulation

Material of the wheels - Structural Steel

Material of the workpiece - Copper alloy non-linear

Meshed model

It is the meshed model.

Default adaptive mesh sizing is used for the rollers.

2mm mesh body sizing is used for copper workpiese.

Results

1 - Equivalent stress

Total equivalent stress developed in the simulation is - 2922MPa

we can understand the stress distrubution thoughout the model with the colours in graphical representration.

2 - Equivalent Plastic strain

Equivalent plastic strain happened in the workpiece is 1.62

3 - Directional deformation in Z axis

Displacement in Z axis is -5.9mm in one side and +5.9mm in other side. Hence the Total deformation in z axis is 11.8mm.

4 - Directional deformation in y axis

Directional deformation of copper sheet is 90.3mm that is closed to 90mm as per the instructions in the challenge.

Conclusion

All the results are represented with the numerical values and graphical representaions that are expected to be briefed here.
