Week - 4 - Crash Box Simulation

Aim: To perform drop test on given crash box FEM with specified boundry conditions.

Procedure:

step 1: Open the dowmloaded .K file in LSdyna prepost

step 2: Now open creat entity and creat the noad set (creat entity>Set data>Set noad>select by part).

step 3: Go to keywords and select section and give shell with thickness ( keywords>section>Shell&solid).

step 4: Make a rigidwall with sutable distance by giving distance for tail and head (Keywords>Rigidwall>Planar).

step 5: Give par id to noadsets with title (keywords>Part>Part).

step 6: Now give material id to parts mobile as elastic (keywords>material).

step 7: Give initial velocity to the crash box (Keywords>inetial>velocity).

step 7: Go to keywords give ASCII, MATSUM , GLOUT ,NODOUT, SECFORC (Keyword>DATABASE>ASCII).

step 8: Go to keywords give Binaryd3plot (Keyword>DATABASE>Binaryd3plot).

step 9: Go to keywords give Cross section plane (Keyword>DATABASE>CROSS_SECTION_PLANE).

step 10: Go to keywords give Cross section plane (Keyword>DATABASE>HISTORY_NODE).

step 11: Give hourglass and termination time (Keyword>Control>Termination).

step 12: Do model check and see if there are any errors before running ( Model check>keyword check)

step 13: Run the LS-DYNA

step 14: Save the solved model.

step 15 : Open post processing and select Von -Mises stesses.

Acceleration plot of a node in the middle of the crashbox for 1.2mm thickness.

Maximum directional stress along the length of the crashbox with 1.2mm thickness.

Internal energy of 1.2mm thickness

kinetic energy of 1.2mm thickness

hourglass energy of 1.2mm

Acceleration plot of a node in the middle of the crashbox for 1.5mm thickness.

Maximum directional stress along the length of the crashbox with 1.2mm thickness.

Cross-sectional force generated in the middle of the crashbox

Acceleration plot of a node in the middle of the crashbox

Internal energy of 1.5mm thickness

kinetic energy of 1.5mm thickness

hourglass energy of 1.5mm

conclusion:

More stresses are induced 1.2mm crash box and acceleration is also more in 1.2mm crashbox
