Week 4 - CHT Analysis on Exhaust port

Conjugate Heat Transfer (CHT) :

Conjugate heat transfers combine the heat transfer which takes place due to both conduction (Solid - Solid) and convection (Solid-Fluid). Thus, by combing the heat transfers an effective and accurate solution could be obtained through the simulation.

In the Exhaust port Challenge, Hot gas from the four Inlet port transfers to the outlet port considering the heat transfer between the conduction of walls and convection heat transfer of wall to the atmosphere.

Physical Setup :

From the given model the Fluid volume is extracted. Both Solid volume and fluid volume is considered.

For Fluid volume Air is chosen as the material and for solid volume Aluminium is chosen as the material.

The Boundaries are named and the Inlet and outlet conditions are given.

Setup :

The inlet velocity has given to 5 m/s with 700 K temperature.

The wall heat transfer coefficient has been given as 20 W/m K.

The Simulation is performed for 500 Iterations ans the contours are plotted below.

Velocity Contour at the Exit Bend :

It is observed the velocity is more at the bend section. Due to higher velocity the heat transfer rate would also be high.

The below image shows the temperature contour across the Fluid Volume.
