Week 4- Challenge

Objective : To create midsurface, generate mesh of mixed type element, creating 1D elements as per given instructions.

CAD model Image:

Procedure:

1) Import IGES file

File – Import – geometry – parallel bracket.igs – import

As we have to generate mid surface of two brackets. We don’t require lines.

This lines can give problem while generating mesh or while solving problems. So deleting the extra lines from geometry.

2) Deleting extra lines.

Delete – Lines – select – delete.

3) Generating Midsurface of top and bottom brackets:

Geometry – mid surface – auto mesh – closed solid – extract

4) Removing extra surface which we don’t require.

Right click on parallel bracket body 1 – delete

Same for parallel barcket body 0

5) Creating Washer split over a surface

Geometry – quick edit – washer split – lines – offset value as 5

6) Asociate mid surface to different component.

Right click on component – create - name it as Bracket top

Same procedure for bracket bottom.

Tools – organize – collector – surfs as bracket top - move

7) Generate mesh using mixed type element and element size as 10

2D – automesh – element size – 10 – mesh

To create good mesh over a surface we have to increase or decrease the element density at fillets also create equal

number of nodes at washer surface to get good quad element.

Increasing node density at edges to capture whole surface.

8) Connecting all nodes by using rbe2 or rbe3 elements as per given instructions

9) Creating cross sections as per given data.

A) 1D – Hyperbeam - standard Section – hypermesh - box

B) 1D – Hyperbeam - standard Section – hypermesh – I section.

C) 1D – Hyperbeam - standard Section – Optistruct – CROSS Section.

10) Create components for rod, bar, beam, spring and mass elements.

Right click component – create – name

11) Create material for selected items.

Material – MAT 1 - define E, G , Nu and density.

12) Create properties for given rod , bar, beam , spring and mass

Enter element types as following

Rod – PROD, Bar – PBAR, Beam – PBEAM, spring – HM_ELAS, Mass - PMASS.

13) Alocate cross sections for individual properties

A) Rod – cross section – box

B) Bar – cross section – I Section

C) Beam – cross section – cross section

14) Associate properties to its respective components

Component – properties – rod

15) Generate rod, bar and beam element between two brackets.

a) 1D – rod – PROD – create

b) 1D – bar –PBAR – create

c) 1D – beam - PBEAM – create

d,e) 1D – mass – PMASS – create

Results: Sucessfully generated 1D elements between two brackets.
