Week 4 - 2D Meshing for Sheet Metal

OBJECTIVE:

To generate mid surface and mesh the hood inner panel using 2D mesh with required quality parameters.

CAD MODEL:

 

PROCEDURE:

Geometry clean up

1) Check the geometry for errors and fix the errors which can be fixed automatically.
2) Clear the triple cone, mono cone and irregular faces for better midsurface generation.
3) Fine the surface area by changing perimeter settings.

Midsurface Generation

1) Generate mid suface using skin option for the whole geometry.
2) Cut the plane sufaces for creating proper mesh flow.

Mesh Generation

1) Set mesh quality parameters for quality checking.
2) Create shell mesh using classic mesh- Best mesh option.
3) Check the quality by going into hidden mode.
4) Clear the mesh quality by using suitable manual options.
5) Try to avoid tria mesh as much as possible for better FEA results.

RESULT:

Floor panel is meshed with 2D mesh using quad dominant mesh.
